Garlic Char Siew ( Chinese Barbecue Pork )

This is the third version of Chinese Barbecue Pork in my blog. The first one was marinated and grilled, second was marinated and pan fried.  In this third version the sauces for the marinate are cooked until fragrant before using as marinade for the pork.  I choose to pan fry the pork.


Ingredients:  (Garlic Char Siu sauce )
  • 2 whole garlics, minced
  • 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoon Chinese wine
  • 2 teaspoons five spice powder
  • 500 ml water
  • 1 teaspoon cornflour 
  • 1 tablespoon water

Method: ( Garlic Char Siu Sauce )
  1. Heat up 2 tablespoon oil and fry minced garlic until fragrant.
  2. Add in the sauces, sugar, Chinese wine, five spice and water.
  3. Bring to a boil.
  4. Lower the heat and continue to boil for 5 minutes.
  5. Thicken with the cornflour mixture.
Ingredients:  ( Char Siu )
  • 2 pieces pork belly / 300g each 
  • 3 tablespoons Garlic Char Siu Sauce
  • 500 ml water
  • 1 tablespoon oil
Method:
  1. Tender the pork belly by tapping with the back of a knife/ cleaver
  2. Heat up 1 tablespoon oil in a non stick pan.
  3. Put in the pork belly and pan fry on all sides until fragrant.
  4. Add in water and bring to a boil.
  5. Lower the heat and cover the pan.  Continue to cook until the pork belly is brown.
  6. Brush the meat with a thin layer of honey the last 5 minutes of cooking for extra sweetness and gloss.
  7. Dish up and cut into slices before serving.


The cooked Garlic Char Siew ...... lacquered, sticky, Chinese-style Char Siew pan-fried to perfection.

The Garlic Sauce Char Siew is featured not only by the yummy taste but also the infamous sticky gloss.


Yummy and simple Chinese Barbecue Pork pan-fried with garlic char siew sauce.
